Imperial Guard Screw Up

May 27, 2009 ·

Sorry guys, I've screwed up with this blog with regards to my Imperial Guard battle reports.

In yesterday's post "40K Bank Holiday" I talked about facing the Imperial Guard for the 2nd time, leaving you all with a very dramatic cliff hanger.

Well, there's one problem with that, because you haven't seen the first time I played against the Imperial Guard with my Warhammer Tau army.

You see, this is what I get for 'scheduling' blog posts.
I got carried away writing about my awesome bank holiday of 40K and forgot that while I played my first game against the Guard last Friday, the battle report had been scheduled for this Friday coming.

Now as I've announced that my second game against the Imperial Guard will be written up this Friday (and I am yet to write it), there is a clash.

So, I'm going to go wild and give you guys not just one, but TWO 40K Battle Reports against the Imperial Guard!

I'm a busy guy and sometimes it's impossible to write more than 1 battle report per week. Sometimes I can't even manage that, so it's good to save up some regular content for when life's too hectic.

And those of you reading my Space Wolves blog will know that my life has been very hectic, what with buying my first apartment and totally redecorating it before moving in.

So without further ado, here's a nice big cliff hanger for this Friday, accompanied by the wise words of my Father which have helped me to overcome all manner of difficulties both on and off the tabletop.

A New Codex

The Tau Empire Strikes Back

Coming this Friday!

One man's tactical brain meats against the might of the Imperial Guard and their new codex of cheap men, cheap tanks and devastating orders.

Looking foward to a more indepth report for this one, what you posted on ATT intrigued me. The IG guy I've played with the new dex has played me once with an all mech army and once with an almost all infantry army. I found both times that he was relativly easily worked around, but from what you've said so far, it seems I've just been playing poor lists/tactics, rather than the new 'dex not being the "God Codex" that so many people screamed that it was.

Wise words there :)
Looking forward to reading two battle reports though ... and I do sympathize with getting carried away with writing things!

SinSynn here-
well as long as the match doesn't end with you encased in carbonite, I guess it's all good.
Looking foward to it!
I sorta have a ethical type question. According to the Tau Codex, if one member of a stealthsuit squad chooses an upgrade, all must do so. My solution was to give the markerlight equipped team leader a targeting array (BS4 markelighty goodness), and the other 2 guys drone controllers. They're free! The rub here is I also give the teamleader a DC and HE GETS the 2 markerdrones. The other DC's are just to fufill the dumb requirement.
Cheesy? Beardy? Anyone have thoughts/knowledge about this being-god forbid-illegal? If so, I would definately work it out.
Lemme know, if you could. Thanx all.

The stealth suit thing sounds fine to me. It's a stupid rule anyway that really ramps up the cost of the unit otherwise.

If you check out the description for the drone controller, it says you MUST take at least one drone if you have a drone controller. So just giving them DCs with no drones isn't allowed. As for the stealth suits, it says that if one takes a support system, they all have to have one, but they can all be different.
So, to keep your costs down, you could just take blacksun filters as they are only 3 points. Or maybe you could give one suit a fusion blaster and target lock so you have some vehicle killing power but don't have to waste all your burst cannon fire when you shoot the fusion blaster. Or just give them each a gun drone to act as bullet sponges. A bit costly but they can absorb a few wounds which is certainly nice.
But yea, i'm not really sure why it's all or nothing with the support systems.
