Pics Leaked of New Tau Models!

September 15, 2015 ·

Here they are folks. And they are a LOT to take in!

The new 'big' riptide. Named the Stormsurge. This is the GW alternative to the forgeworld R'varna. Definitely the heavy support variant.
Clearly carries a massive Rail weapon as the primary, 4 seeker missiles, and a huge missile pod payload. You can also see more missile pods setup for indirect fire, possibly an SMS system.

Edit: the more I look at the weapon, the more I think it is a massive pulse weapon. You can see 3 little 'barrels' in the vertical opening. This sortof makes me happy, since it would mean the Hammerhead would still be the only way to get a rail weapon. Unless the thing I think is an 'ion' weapon is really some sort of rail weapon. who knows? GW probably didn't even know when they designed it: "Just make it look cool. We'll name it and give it rules later"

The legs sport stabilizing rods, which might translate to movement restrictions in-game when firing at full effect.

Lots of optics and targeters, including what looks like an independent targeting AI thingamabob opposite the main weapon. Maybe a TL AFP for clearing out those pesky infantry hordes? Room for support systems too. Man this thing looks like it will hit so hard. It reminds me of when the Hammerhead was first introduced, with the huge Railgun that was an unheard of S10 AP1 Range 72" and wowed everyone. Pretty much no reason to take the humble hammerhead now...

You get a peek at the new firewarriors, the other new riptide variant, and new crisis suits. The crisis suits are a nice blend of the old style altered for better modeling and more poses. They'll fit in nicely as we augment our old crisis teams with them. Unlike the Broadsides, which were worlds apart from their predecessors.

And here we have the 'little' riptide, plus some extras. No idea what the name is for it. This is GW's alternative to the Y'vahra and definitely looks like a close support stealth riptide. Carrying some sort of stripped down Ion weapon, fusion blasters, possibly a missile pod, and some advanced maneuverability.

Edit: named the Ghostkeel

Looks like it comes with yet another type of drone, what could they be for? Some sort of close support flechette drone? Either way they look Awesome!

And here you can see the New. Fire. Warriors!!!!!!! Holy crap they look so good. Those carbines look super modern and the new helmets make them look way cooler than before. I love our Tau, and this makes me want to sell all the Tau I own!

You also get to see the Stormsurge in the background with an Ion primary weapon instead of the Rail weapon. So the SS will definitely have lots of options!

EDIT: these are from B&C. Shows the new name: Ghostkeel for the smaller stealth riptide

Share them around. Spread the Greater Good!
you Space Marine players can just sit back and start crying now. Might as well do it now and get it over with in private.

Hmm, i'm thinking those "new firewarriors" aren't firewarriors but a new unit, there are pictures of the old firewarriors with those new guys. Hopefully we'll have a 3rd troop choice, maybe they are a more elite soldier? like scions are to regular imperial guard?

The new fire warriors as vets? Possible, but imo it is unlikely, here's why I think that:

1-GW needs to make sales. They will try to make this kit as usable as possible, and awesome ruleswise. As an elite unit, or an ethereal bodyguard, you wouldn't buy very many of these. I am almost certain that they will be a core unit in at least one of our new 'decurion' formations

2-Too similar to existing FW to be anything else. They have almost nothing to distinguish them except for a slightly different carbine design. The stealth suits are our elite infantry (remember the old XV15's?)
The kit was so old, it has to be Replaced, not augmented. People would just end up using these guys as regular fire warriors anyways.

That said, I DO hope that we get the ethereal vets back. They were awesome.

Aren't those "old Firewarriors" actually Pathfinders? Which pictures are the old ones in?

I assumed he was talking about the pathfinders as well. I don't see any of the old Fire Warrior models in the pictures
